discovering.. COLERA
The tourist development of the Costa Brava passed by the small coastal village of Colera almost without a trace. Outside of the season about 300 inhabitants live here. Even during the summer it does not become crowded here, neither in the village itself nor in the urbanizations around the village.
The village groups itself around the “Plaza Mayor” with its outstanding plane tree, “arbre de la llibertat” (tree of liberty).
Here one can buy food in shops; two Bars are open in summer, outside the season usually one only…
In the past years two bank branches established themselves at the Plaza Mayor.
In the gallery Horizon the cream of the Catalan avant-garde often gets together in summer for various Vernissages.
On the right and at the bottom to the left is the main beach of Colera. Even in high season (the photos were taken in August) it is never crowded here.
Around the village several small beaches and bays group themselves. Most of them can be attained comfortably by car, others by boat only.
Who expects a rich offer of tourist installations, is definitely in the wrong place at Colera. Who, however, wants a quiet and peaceful vacation and would like to experience plentiful of genuine nature, is definitely in the right spot here.
Boats can anchor in the sports port for a fee. Information for this is obtainable at the Club Nautic Colera. Who travels by train, arrives at the station of Colera (on the right down). However, not all trains stop there, sometimes you have to change either in Llançà or Portbou (depending on direction).
Infrastructure.
Accommodation in (usually simple) pensions and hotels or in holiday apartments and houses. These are usually rented through the local real estate agencies. A camping site is likewise present. In the grocer’s shops one finds everything for the daily need. Restaurants and simple Bars are also available. The road connections are good, both to Llançà and to the border in Portbou, the latter, however, being rather curvy.
