The worldwide community of museums will celebrate International Museum Day on and around 18 May 2018.
The objective of International Museum Day is to raise awareness of the fact that, “Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.” Organised on and around 18 May each year, the events and activities planned to celebrate International Museum Day can last a day, a weekend or a whole week.
One of the main activities of the celebration of the IMD is the Night of the Museums, an initiative of the Europe Council that is celebrated this year on 19th May Saturday’s night. During this night, several museums in Catalonia will open their doors beyond midnight with various recreational and cultural proposals.
The Museum of the Ruins of Empúries (L’Escala) will hold an open-doors day on the 18th, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
