It is worth noting that a cigarette butt takes more than 10 years to degrade, and millions of them end up in the sea each year.<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-26503\" src=\"https:\/\/cbrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/platja-espigo-empuries-lescala.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"331\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cbrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/platja-espigo-empuries-lescala.jpg 490w, https:\/\/cbrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/platja-espigo-empuries-lescala-300x203.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 490px) 100vw, 490px\" \/>La Platja Nova, beach next to the Emp\u00faries jetty (L&#8217;Escala town hall)<\/h6>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cbrava.com\/en\/tourism\/lescala\/\"><em>L&#8217;Escala<\/em> <\/a>was the first village in Spain to have a smoke-free beach in 2006, the &#8220;Platja Nova&#8221; (beach next to the <a href=\"https:\/\/cbrava.com\/en\/magazine\/the-ruins-of-empuries\/\"><em>Emp\u00faries<\/em> <\/a>jetty).<\/p>\n<p>In the province of <em><strong>Girona<\/strong><\/em>, besides <strong><em>L&#8217;Escala<\/em><\/strong>, there are currently other beaches where smoking is not allowed, such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Palafrugell<\/em><\/strong>: smoking has been prohibited on any of its beaches or coves since 2020<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Lloret de Mar<\/em><\/strong>: smoking is not allowed on any beach or cove since January 2024<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Begur<\/em><\/strong>: smoking is not allowed on the beaches of <strong><em>Aiguablava<\/em><\/strong>, <em><strong>Playa Fonda<\/strong><\/em>, and <strong><em>Sa Tuna<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Sant Feliu de Gu\u00edxols<\/strong><\/em>: smoke-free zones on its 2 beaches<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the province of <em><strong>Barcelona<\/strong><\/em>, the beaches where smoking is not allowed are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>El Masnou<\/strong><\/em>: smoking has been prohibited on the two beaches of the municipality since 2023<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Pineda de Mar<\/strong><\/em>: smoke-free zone on its beaches<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Barcelona<\/strong><\/em>: smoking is not allowed on any of its beaches since 2022<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Calella<\/strong><\/em>: smoking is not allowed on the entire beach<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the <em><strong>Balearic Islands<\/strong><\/em>, in <em><strong>Ibiza<\/strong><\/em>, we find two more smoke-free beaches, such as the urban beach of <em>Santa Eulalia del R\u00edo<\/em> and the beach of <em>Talamanca<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Note: It should be clarified that individuals who do not comply with smoke-free spaces are usually not penalized, as it is generally considered a minor offense, and efforts are made to convince the person with health and respect arguments.
