{"id":21126,"date":"2010-07-20T17:53:44","date_gmt":"2010-07-20T15:53:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cbrava.com\/articles\/espanol-nuestros-faros\/"},"modified":"2015-03-14T19:57:38","modified_gmt":"2015-03-14T18:57:38","slug":"costa-brava-lighthouses","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/cbrava.com\/en\/magazine\/costa-brava-lighthouses\/","title":{"rendered":"Costa Brava Lighthouses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Coasts are like humans, some are beautiful, but often the beauty is tinged with danger.\u00a0 Costa Brava highlights this rule:\u00a0 the coast is a joy to behold, but often this coast has brought death and disaster to ships and their sailors.\u00a0 Innumerable ships have been stranded on our rocky coast.<\/p>\n<p>Since navigation knowledge and charts existed, it was possible to warn sailors of dangerous shallows and rocks&#8230;first with simple wood fires, then, to be replaced with lighthouses with petroleum-fed fires and finally with electrical beacons.<\/p>\n<p>Non-plus ultra of the technology today is the lighthouse of Cerbere, <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21105 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/cbrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/far-cercere-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"far-cercere\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cbrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/far-cercere-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cbrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/far-cercere-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/> with solar energy.<\/p>\n<p>In the south of our region is the lighthouse St. Sebastian at the Cap Bagur; <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21090 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/cbrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/far-begur-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"far-begur\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cbrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/far-begur-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cbrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/far-begur-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>and at the outermost point of the gulf of Roses, there is a white lighthouse, <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21110 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/cbrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/far-medes-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"far-medes\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cbrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/far-medes-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cbrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/far-medes-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>only one mile distant from the Medas islands and the metallic 297 meters high tower `Toran &#8221; with its horizontal white and orange strips.<\/p>\n<p>38 meters away from the sea, near the rock &#8221; La Bateria &#8220;, radiates the lighthouse of Roses:\u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21120 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/cbrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/far-roses-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"far-roses\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cbrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/far-roses-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cbrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/far-roses-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>a cylindrical, white tower in the midst of a house.\u00a0 Cadaqu\u00e9s calls its lighthouse &#8220;Cebolla&#8221; (bulb).\u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21095 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/cbrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/far-cadaques-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"far-cadaques\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cbrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/far-cadaques-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cbrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/far-cadaques-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>It is 27 meters above the sea on the &#8220;Cala Nans\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Cap Creus, with its gigantic rock massif was always a great navigational danger.\u00a0 Its white lighthouse <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21100 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/cbrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/far-cap-creus-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"far-cap-creus\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cbrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/far-cap-creus-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cbrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/far-cap-creus-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>rises up 11 meters.<\/p>\n<p>In Port de la Selva, the lighthouse Sarnella <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21115 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/cbrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/far-port-selva-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"far-port-selva\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cbrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/far-port-selva-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cbrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/far-port-selva-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>emits its light into the night, squarely from a grey building.\u00a0 The last lighthouse before the border with France is in Colera, a small red-white tower at the port entrance.<\/p>\n<p>Although all of these lighthouses are in operation, the time of the lighthouse attendants belongs to the past.\u00a0 Today, all lighthouses beacons are controlled remotely from Barcelona.\u00a0 Only periodically does maintenance staff visit the lighthouses.<\/p>\n<p><!--:--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Coasts are like humans, some are beautiful, but often the beauty is tinged with danger.\u00a0 Costa Brava highlights this rule:\u00a0 the coast is a joy to behold, but often this coast has brought death and disaster to ships and their sailors.\u00a0 Innumerable ships have been stranded on our rocky coast.
